Malayalam superstar Mammootty was given the biggest applause as he shared his visions on the youth in the Eighth All India Conference of the DYFI being held at Chennai.

Mammootty, who has a huge fan following in Tamil Nadu as well, was addressing thousands in the first official party function that he was attending. He was invited as the chief guest of the function.

Mammootty who started his speech with the traditional Vannakkam in Tamil, switched over to English for the benefit of DYFI delegates from other parts of India and abroad. He stressed that youth power is like atomic energy, it can be used to generate power. He said the bane of our present Indian society is communalism, casteism and regionalism.

“I memorize all my scripts for films, but what I am saying today is from my heart,” Mammootty said as he gained the biggest claps among the speakers. He added that the Gujarat carnage in 2002 would not have happened, if the Communist Party of India-Marxist's (CPI-M) youth wing had been stronger in that state.

Mammootty also saw a greater role for Left parties in Jammu and Kashmir. He also made it a point that the DYFI must plan rebellion only against that acts that the common man finds important and not on all issues that their oppositions sparks off.

Every Speaker who spoke on the occasion acknowledged Mammootty’s contribution to the movement. N Ram, the editor of Hindu described him as "an outstanding cultural personality who also does popular cinema".
