The Karnataka state chief minister Siddaramaiah announcing the state budget on Wednesday in Assembly for 2017-2018 has fixed Rs.200 as ticket price as maximum in multiplex theatres. Nearly 2000 crores of rupees approximate revenue generated annually from multiplex to other language films screening in Karnataka from nearly 650 screens in 90 multiplexes in state. Nearly 300 non Kannada films hit the screens in these places to make revenue of such a huge amount. The ticket price was ranging from 100 on week days to Rs.1200 on holidays at these Multiplex theatres.

Karnataka is third state to fix this maximum ticket price. The Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh states are also following this pattern. In addition to this major announcement on multiplex theatres, the state budget also announced compulsory screening of Kannada and regional films such as Tulu, Konkani, Kodava, Beary and Banjara state recognized language films compulsorily with top priority to Kannada.

Among other sops announced to Kannada film industry the welfare fund to film industry has been raised from Rs.1 crore to Rs.10 crores, the tax of Rupee 1 on non Kannada films tickets is hiked to Rs.5. this excess amount will be used for the constructive purposes. The announcement of Film City at Mysuru was another announcement from state chief minister.
