Majority of the people of Malaysia have voiced their strong objections to Shah Rukh Khan being conferred the high ranking title of "Datuk" by the rulers.

The title of "Datuk" comes under Darjah Mulia Seri Melaka which was given to the film star.

SRK did not attend the ceremony during which the title was given.

A large number of Malaysian citizens are saying that only local artists should be given the highly prestigious national honour which is equal to the title of "Knighthood" given by the British Government.

Daim Zainuddin who is a former finance minister of Malaysia had recommended King Khan's name and the reason he gave for his selection of the Indian superstar was that it will help to promote the name of the country in the world.

The ex-minister to justify his decision cited that after SRK had filmed some scenes of his movie "One 2 Ka 4" at the Famosa Resort in Alor Gajah in 2001, the number of people who came to see the country had increased.

The country's Sultan Yang Di Pertuna Negri Tun Mohammed Khalil Yakoub presented the title of "Datuk" to several persons on Saturday.
