Malabar Wedding
'Sorakalyanam' is a custom prevalent in Malabar areas, attached to marriages. This interesting custom is such that the friends of the bride or the groom will built up false cooked up stories that seems more natural than the original, to tease the new couple. These teasing can go up to any levels that some times they even results in close friends turning big foes. Presenting a film in the backdrop of 'Sorkalyanam' is two young directors, Rajesh and Faizal, both the assistants to Priyadarshan and Major Ravi, who are all set to make their debut with `Malabar Wedding', a film that sounds interesting in plots and presentations.
The film tells the story of a group of friends who has always been the forerunners in celebrating the fun and frolic of 'Sorakalyanam'. Manukuttan popularly called in the circuit as Tharavu Manu, has been always in the lead in creating practical jokes on the groom -to be's and in kicking over the traces in every neighboring wedding ceremonies. Every youth in the village very well knew that, one fine day of their marriage, they too will be at the receiving end of this mock play.
Manukuttan fell in love with Smitha who came to Kerala after some problems that she faced while living at Calcutta. Friends were waiting for long to retaliate Manu, on his day of glory, for all the practical jokes that he had made upon them in the past .Day after day they started coming up with interesting plots that Manu took sportingly. But for Smitha who spent majority of her life outside Kerala, it wasn't easy to realize the fun attached, and she started smelling something serious and goes haywire .The film moves on to tell how such funny customs affect the lives of a young couple, even from the day of their marriage.
Based on some real life situations, the movie is scripted by Ramesh Madhavan. Kollywood cinematographer Velraj debuts into Malayalam with this film.
Indrajith plays Manukuttan while Gopika does the role of Smitha. Also in the cast are Mamukoya, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Kiran Raj, Manianpillai Raju, Janardhanan, Anoop Chandran, T P Madhavan, Santhosh Jogi, Manka Mahesh, Mini Arun, Lekshmipriya and Sree Nandhana.
The director duo is more than sure that `Malabar Wedding' will be a hilarious movie which will get the positive nod from the majority of the audience. For quite some time we had been discussing this script. But it was only a couple of months before that we decide to do it together. We are also planning our next movie together, that too with Indrajith. We have already titled the movie as 'Lucky Ali', says the Rajesh and Faisal who has been assisting Priyadarshan from his earlier Bollywood movie 'Doli Sajake Rehana'.
The film will also feature a few songs written by Jofi Tharakan and set to music by Rahulraj. Produced in the banner of Minerva Creations by T Santhoshkumar, K B Devaraj, the movie will hit the screens, this March.
