Makkal Selvan Vijay Sethupathi has been one of the busiest actors of Kollywood and has been acting in dozens of films now in Tamil, had recently made his Telugu debut with Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy and is now acting in movies in Telugu and Hindi as well.

The actor had been working on Laabam directed by SP Jhananathan, co-starring Shruti Haasan and Kalaiyarasan, and this movie is based on agriculture, with the actor himself playing a farmers union leader. The shooting was held in a village named Peruvayal near Kundrathur.

For the shooting, a farmers association building was needed and Vijay Sethupathi had insisted the team not to build a set, but a real building, and after the completion of the shooting, gifted the building to the farmers of the area. Laabam is co-produced by VijaySethupathi along with director Arumuga Kumar.
