Senior BJP leader and Rajya Sabha M.P. Subramanian Swamy has opined that making submission of Aadhaar card details mandatory for ‘anything and everything’ might endanger national security.
Many cases have been filed with the Supreme Court of India against making submission of Aadhaar card details mandatory for benefiting from Central schemes. West Bengal chief-miniser Mamata Banerjee said she won’t submit her Aadhaar card details to her cell-phone service provided and moved the Supreme Court in this regard. The apex Court, however, advised her to file the case as an individual or a citizen and not as a chief-minister.
In the meantime, Swamy has harshly criticized the Centre’s decision to demand details of Aadhaar cards from citizens for almost anything and everything, right from getting cooking gas connection to displaying it as an ID during domestic air-travel.
Swamy has tweeted on his Twitter account stating that he would soon be sending a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in this regard. “Aadhaar card details, if revealed, might even endanger national security. The Supreme Court should step in and restrain the Centre from insisting on furnishing Aadhaar card details at all times,” Swamy’s tweets said.
