'Comali' is an upcoming Tamil-language comedy starring Jayam Ravi and Kajal Aggarwal in the lead. The film is up for a theatrical release this August 15. Soon after its trailer landed most recently, sections of Superstar Rajinikanth's fans got angry.
Here is the reason. Jayam Ravi's character in the movie goes into a coma and comes back to consciousness in 2019 after several years. When he wakes up, he watches Rajinikanth say that he will definitely enter politics. This video clip pertains to what the 'Kabali' actor said in December 2018. After hearing this, Jayam Ravi's character says that the video pertains to 1996, which is when Rajini started talking about his political entry.
Rajini's fans are seeing it as a satire on their favourite matinee idol. They have lashed out at the film and its director, Pradeep Ranganathan, on social media.
Following the backlash, the makers of 'Comali' have said that they didn't intend to mock Rajini but only express their wish to see him become a full-time politician. "I am a big fan of Rajini sir. I have always wanted to see him as a leader," the director said.
The makers have decided to remove the scene from the movie in view of Rajini's fans getting offended.
