Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal has said that a majority of students in the country want JEE and NEET entrance exams to be held in September. The exams have been postponed twice in recent months. JEE will be written by 8.58 lakh students, while NEET will be attempted by more than 15 lakh students.
Speaking to a daily, the Minister has said that declaring 2020 as a zero year will be "untenable". "The next batch would be ready to appear for these examinations next year," he said, adding that parents and students are under stress, as they have been preparing for exams for years. Citing that a majority of aspirants have already downloaded admit cards, the Minister said that they all want no further deferment.
"JEE exam centres have been increased to 660 from 570 while there are now 3,842 NEET centres, up from 2,546 for the convenience of students. Students have also been allotted exam centres of their choice," he told ANI, the news agency.
