In a shocking news, there has been a major corona outbreak in the reputed educational institution IIT Madras following which the campus has been placed under a temporary lockdown.

As per reports, 71 Covid cases got reported in last two weeks including 66 students, four mess staff and one from resident quarters. Yesterday witnessed the highest spike with 32 new cases and now the TN government has ordered testing all the students on the campus.

Following this development the institute has ordered shut down of all departments, Centres and the library immediately until further notice and the faculty, staff, project staff and research scholars will work from home. Currently 774 students are residing on the campus, and 408 student samples have been collected so far.
