'Majili' is an honest, realistic film: Naga Chaitanya

Naga Chaitanya is utterly confident about 'Majili'. Ahead of the romantic drama's release on April 5, the actor talks about the product, what makes it special, working with his wife Samantha, doing 'Venky Mama' and more.
An unexplored idea, new roles
Pressure is there because of the expectations. I and Samantha have done films like 'Ye Maya Chesave' and 'Manam' in the past. We wanted to attempt something that is very different after marriage. And the script of 'Majili' is so apt because I and Sam are husband and wife in the movie. It touches upon an unexplored idea.
'Majili' is an honest story
When Shiva Nirvana narrated the story to me for 25 minutes, I was thoroughly impressed. After the narration was over, the director felt that Sam should do the heroine's character. In 'Ninnu Kori', I liked the way he honestly dealt with the story. It was a realistic film. I told him to come up with an honest story for me.
Chemistry with Samantha
We both have played intense characters. Offscreen rapport can help spark onscreen chemistry. And I think that has happened with us in 'Majili'. Sam thinks more about me than her. It's her nature. Also, we took 7-8 months for the scripting process. The director spoke to me a lot about the movie. We became good friends in that phase. And it helped during the making.
Let the audience judge my acting
I surrendered myself to the director's vision. I didn't want to involve too much anywhere after the script was done. I can't judge my own performance. It's up to the audience. Since the character is layered, I knew that I should work harder. Since Shiva is satisfied, I am very happy. Most of the times, actors would have his or her doubts about whether the movie is getting executed right. Doubts affect performance. In the case of this movie, there were no such fears.
Favourite scenes in 'Majili'
A scene in which I and Posani garu have a heated argument after the interval will impress the audience. It's one of my favourite scenes in the movie, besides the climax.
Climax is special
A lot of homework went into the climax. It's just between me and Sam. We worked on it well in advance as Shiva Nirvana had given us the scene one month before. No other character accepts me the way I am in the film. Only Sam likes me. The second half is full of arguments. The scenes are emotional and layered. It's not a monotonous movie.
That's why Thaman was brought in
This is a prestigious project for me and Sam. Nanna garu felt that he should have done a movie like this. The producers were kind to produce it in the right way. Thaman is the best when it comes to RR. We watched the film only after the RR work was done. Gopi Sunder told us that he wouldn't be able to do the BGM before April 7. But our release date was fixed in advance. We didn't want to miss the date.
No cinematic liberties
The film reflects the lives of the middle-class people. There are no cinematic liberties in the movie. It's as realistic as the trailer. There are no unnecessary fights/songs.
Heartbreaks are there in my life
I have experienced quite a few heartbreaks. They were painful but pain has always matured me. Relationships have changed me. Professionally, I have got flops when I least expected. They all have made me a stronger person.
Shooting for 'Venky Mama'
We have shot for 15 days. A long schedule will happen soon. The entire shoot will be completed by June or July. I have not okayed any script apart from 'Venky Mama'. Dil Raju garu will arrange a narration session with a new director after the release of 'Majili'.
