David Dhawan does it again. After loosing his way in the late 90s and early years of this side of the millennium, he first reinvented himself with 'Mujhse Shaadi Karogi' in 2004 that recently completed its golden jubilee. And what better way to celebrate the success of his Salman Khan-Akshay Kumar-Priyanka Chopra starrer than to come up with yet another explosive comedy 'Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya' - a Sohail Khan, Seema Kar, Dhilin Mehta production under the banner of Shree Asthavinayak Cine Vision.
Sameer [Salman Khan] is an orthopedic doctor who is in a helpless situation as his charm never fails on his patient, especially when the patient happens to be a young woman. To avoid getting into the trap, he lies to every woman that he is married. Instead he loves an established model cum dress designer Sonia [Katrina Kaif] who threatens suicide every time she seems something amiss in Sameer's love for her.
Life is going smooth for the couple till the time Sonia demands Sameer that she wants to meet his wife before they get married. A difficult task? Indeed yes! But then to solve such matters is Sameer's efficient nurse/receptionist for 5 years Naina [Sushmita Sen] who manages everything for him, be it the appointments, the medical reports, the patients and even his lunch orders! The reason is simple - she silently loves him!
She steps in as Sameer's wife after an initial reluctance just in order to convince Sonia that her marriage was on rocks and she was happy to let her marry Sameer. Everyone thinks that its going to be 'living happily ever after' for Sameer from here but that isn't the case. Because Sonia spots Naina with her niece and nephew and believes that they are Sameer's kids. And now she wants to meet them also to give them all the love of 'doosri maa' [second mom].
Guilt feel engulfs Naina but she continues to lie and act for Sameer's sake because he has promised that this drama to end after a fake. But here comes another twist in the tale. Sameer's 'maa' [Beena Kak] from Punjab, who slaps before she speaks, arrives in the nick of time to prevent the divorce.
Sameer and Naina are now forced to live together while Sonia watches. In the meanwhile there is Pyaare [Sohail Khan], Sonia's next door 'struggling hero' neighbor who has the knack of being at the right time in the right place and never fails to openly profess his affection for her. Vicki [Arshad Warsi] is another film actor who is Sameer's best friend and inspite of a steady girlfriend [Isha Kopikar] never lets a single moment go in Sameer's clinic without flirting with Naina. And if all this wasn't enough, there is a Kargil war hero 'Thapa' [Rajpal Yadav] who wants himself treated at Sameer's clinic.
Sameer is stuck. He loves Sonia. Sonia loves him but first wants permission from his all family members before getting married. Pyaare loves Sonia and hates Sameer. Naina loves Sameer. Vicky flirts with Naina. And if all this was not enough, 'Thapa' too has fallen in love with Naina!!
What happens next? Do Sameer, his mom, Naina and the kids continue to stay together as one happy family? Does Sonia get Sameer? And what happens to Naina after all her sacrifice?
A plot like this could have turned out to be highly confusing or an utter drag. But to the credit of Rumi Jaffrey's tout screenplay, Sanjey Chhel's dialogues and Salim-Suleman's background score - three pillars on which MPKK rests - David Dhawan delivers goods by coming up with a non-stop laugh riot that turns out to be a neat family entertainer. Movie bears a rich'n'glossy looks throughout, courtesy Vikas Shivraman's cinematography.
