As the nation celebrated 152nd birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, filmmaker Mahesh Manjrekar marked the ocassion with most unusual birthday wish. He announced his next directorial venture titled 'Godse'. Mahesh is going to collaborate with Sandeep Singh and Raaj Shandilya, who'll bankroll the project. As it is evident by the title, 'Godse' will be based on the life of Nathuram Godse, the man who assassinated Mahatma Gandhi.
Sharing a teaser of the film on Instagram, Mahesh wrote, "The Deadliest Birthday wish ever! Get ready to witness a story no one dared to tell before! Sandeep Singh, Raaj Shaandilyaa and Mahesh Manjrekar announce a film “Godse" on Mahatma Gandhi's 152nd birth anniversary."
Mahesh also revealed why he chose to tell the story of Godse. He wrote, "The story of Nathuram Godse has always been close to my heart. It takes a lot of courage to back a film of this nature. I always believe in hard-hitting subjects and uncompromised storytelling and this one fits the bill. People do not know much about Godse other than he’s the man who fired at Gandhi. While telling his story, we neither want to patronize nor want to speak against anyone. We’ll leave it to the audience on who is right or wrong."
The project is still in the scripting phase and casting is yet to be initiated.
