Best Hero - Oriented/ Intro Songs
Superstars have a huge burden on them to kill it with their very intro/hero-oriented song. Sometimes, if that clicks, it's like half the battle has been won as far as the first half is concerned. And Mahesh Babu should be counted among the bests when it comes to such songs.
The list is startling and tempting. Read on...
He waltzed his way into female fans' hearts with that very first outing. 'Bollywood balaraju ni.. Andarlo chinna vadini' was the one. Mani Sharma, since then, progressively raised the standards till a few years ago. 'Naluguriki nacchinadi' from Takkari Donga was a blockbuster hit song. 'Dum dum Nataraju' form Murari, which is at least 15 years old, is still a favourite of many. In the song 'Hare Rama, hare Krishna', Mahesh made it clear that he is one and only 'Okkadu' of TFI. Pokiri introduced him as an aggressive, massy actor through the song 'Jagadame'. 'Penu thoofanu' portrayed an intense Mahesh as a catastrophe the evil doers must fear.
Thaman's hero-oriented songs in Dookudu ('Nee dookudu') and Businessman ('Aamchi Mumbai') were run-away hits.
In short, Mahesh is one and only superstar among the current crop to have the maximum number of hits belonging to this genre of songs.
Best Awards Follow This Best Actor
Mahesh has been destiny's child when it comes to winning most respected or prestigious awards more than any other hero of the current generation.
His Nandi award-winning spree is something to reckon with. If he won the Best Actor Nandi for his outstanding Nijam, Athadu, and Dookudu acts, Murari, Takkari Donga and Arjun acts won for him Best Jury Nandis.
As for Filmfare awards, the list is admirable. Starting from Okkadu (where he is seen in the role of a sportsperson who risks his all to save a damsel in distress), he has since won the Best Actor award from the prestigious franchise three more times.
His most intense act till date (may be, Arjun comes the closest to this in terms of intensity) is in Pokiri. SVSC and Srimanthudu, two of his most loved family-oriented entertainers, won two more awards together. As Chinnodu in SVSC, Mahesh's excellent chemistry with a seasoned actor like Venkatesh won him laurels. In Srimanthudu, he was balance and poise personified. No trace of him going overboard anywhere.
Best Experiments Are His Best Achievements
For someone who dares to defy norms, it's not surprising that Mahesh has admirably done a balancing act. From playing unconventional roles in Teja's Nijam, Gunasekhar's Arjun and Srikanth Addala's SVSC, to doing out-and-out commercial roles/films like Pokiri, Dookudu, Businessman - he has done them all. But we will limit ourselves to Mahesh's famous experiments today.
Thanks to Krishna Vamsi, the actor was unveiled in a challenging role like never before. That was Murari. Arjun might not have had a terrific screenplay, but it's still the best film with respect to its male lead. Nijam happened post Okkadu and as it didn't fit well with Mahesh's radically re-shaped image, it fell flat. Teja's instincts went horribly wrong. But Mahesh as a timid child of an assertive mother didn't go unsung.
Nani, among his biggest disasters, was a bold experiment. Never mind the result, Mahesh here was a child-man who stole the hearts of children and adults alike. The scene where he is interviewed by Nasser is a class act!
As for Arjun, it had huge expectations going for it, but not many were prepared to watch a sister-brother story. But one is sure about one thing. But for Mahesh, no other big star would have accepted such a story. As a brother out to save his sister from the evil clutch of her in-laws, Mahesh delivered one of the best performances of his career.
In Businessman, he played a glorified criminal. Keeping aside the ethical issues, it must be said that the actor came out as a Pokiri on steroids in this flick. No wonder that Businessman is one of the most favourites as far as Mahesh's fans are concerned.
To top it all, he played a psychologically sick youngster suffering from hallucination in 1:Nenokkadine. A critically acclaimed act which will always be a feather in the cap.
Best Punchlines Are His Gifts
Pardon us if we have missed anything. But folks, that's what happens when one is listing Mahesh's famous lines. Read on...
'Evadu kodithe dimma tirigi mind block aypoddo, aade pandu gaadu': This was the most parodied one in private conversations, especially among the college-goers.
'Ee thokka lo meetingento naku artham kavadamledu':
'Eppudu vaccham annadi kadannayya, bullettu diginda leda': The scene was more enjoyable in retrospect. That's because cop Mahesh Babu's righteous rage in the scene could be understood only later.
'Nenu entha yedhavano nake teldu': Of course, many youngsters took pride in saying this. They couldn't have asked for a better way to make their mediocrity look sexy.
'Okka sari commit aithe naa mata nene vinanu': Not sure how many managers and team leaders openly said it after Pokiri, but many of their team members did quote this line about their bosses, sarcastically or otherwise.
Sayaji Shinde's lecture to the media: This is another scene where the dialogues lived on for long even after the film was gone. Noteworthy, given that it has no hero, but only a character artiste!
'Cinemalu choodadledenti?': Not a big punch line, but it showed how lightly he took the gangsters.
'Tempt aipotunnanu' from Murari brought out the travails of a 'bava' who had to suppress his urge to romance with his cute 'maradalu'.
'Gun choodali anuko, tappu ledu. Bullet choodali anukoku, chacchipotav' from Athadu. Enough said.
