Maharashtra: Why Congress is luckiest party

With the Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress trio firming up a convenient alliance, the Congress party is now on its way to reaping the fruit without sowing a seed! It's the luckiest party in Maharashtra right now.

As per early reports, the Sonia Gandhi sena is expected to be given as many as 12 ministerial berths in the new coalition government. Of these, almost 10 will be Cabinet berths. It might get the Speaker post as well.

Frankly, the Sonia-Rahul duo can't ask for more. Whatever little they get due to the new arrangement will be because of their stars, not hard work. The party secured just 44 seats in the Assembly elections, standing at No. 4 in the pecking order. "Isn't it amazing? No campaign, no big leader came to Maharashtra, local leaders didn't even try. Still getting this, lucky enough," says Shivangi Thakur, a journalist.

In this set-up, Uddhav Thackeray becomes the first Thackeray Chief Minister. Ajit Pawar is expected to be the Deputy CM.
