Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has defended the Central Vista Project by making a reference to the MVA government's Aamdar Niwas project in Maharashtra. The project concerns building quarters for the MLAs of the State.

"The cost of Aamdar Niwas project for luxurious residences for Maharashtra MLAs is Rs 900 Cr. The cost of new parliament building is Rs 862 Cr," the Minister wrote.

The Modi government has been facing criticism incessantly over the Central Vista Project, whose cumulative budget spread over several years is Rs 20,000 Cr. Memes on the so-called Modi Mahal are doing the rounds on the Internet like crazy.

Commenting on the tweet, columnist Satish Viswanath wrote, "Such comparisons are unnecessary. Just get on with the Central Vista project without bothering about the optics. What will the Union government do if Maharashtra decides to score brownie points by putting the construction of the MLA residences on hold?"
