Raj Bhavan in Mumbai has stated that the Governor of Maharashtra has submitted a report to the President of India recommending President's Rule in the State. He is satisfied that "as the government cannot be carried on in accordance with the Constitution, the provisions of Article 356 of the Indian Constitution" have to be invoked.
Following this, the Shive Sena has approached the Supreme Court. It has called the decision of the Governor unreasonable, unconstitutional and malafide. It has indirectly alleged that the BJP is spoiling the show for it by preventing the formation of a non-BJP government.
A few moments ago, NCP leader Nawab Malik said that the party's 54 MLAs have "decided that looking at the uncertainty in the state, Sharad Pawar shall be empowered to take the decision on government formation". The Congress is said to be divided over supporting Shiv Sena, a Hindutva party.
