In an incident reported from Maharashtra, an 18-year-old undergraduate student from Dhule gave birth to a baby in her hostel washroom and left the newborn inside a bucket.
The incident happened on February 29 at the Savitribai Phule Adivasi girls hostel in Sakri town. The warden of the hostel heard the child crying and went to check the restroom where she found the baby inside a bucket. None of the students initially came forward to claim the child. The police reportedly stated, “Then a suspicious student was taken for medical examination and it was revealed that the child belonged to her.”
The girl and her child have been taken to a government hospital for further medical examination. Investigation of the matter is currently underway.
