Shobana acted as Kamal Haasan's teenage daughter in 'Mahanathi' and ever since that the movie title has been a prefix to her name. The talented singer has filed a copyright violation case in the Madras High Court against Symphony Records that has an office in the Saligramam area in Chennai.
Shobana has stated that at the age of 14 she had sung the "Kantha Sashti Kavasam" album and a children's rhymes album "Twinkle Twinkle Litte Star". She has stated in her petition that at that time when she was just a child an agreement was made between her and the company which is not valid and even if it does the period is only for five years and thus it becomes void by 2011.
Shobana has demanded rupees twenty lakhs as compensation from Symphony Records for continuing to exploit her songs without paying her royalties.
