As predicted, 'Mahabharat' couldn't see audience coming its way in theatres. The film had a small release, courtesy 'Dhoom 3' continuing to create havoc in theatres and most multiplexes and single screens retaining it. Even with limited screens, there was limited footfall that the film enjoyed, hence resulting in negligible collections over the weekend.

What further hampered the film's run were average reviews that it gathered. Majority complained with the quality of animation, though idea of superstars lending their voice for all the characters was much appreciated. That wasn't good enough though for 'Mahabharat' to gain from word of mouth since all roads led to 'Dhoom 3' and expectedly, the animation outing just couldn't find breathing space for itself to sustain and grow.

Meanwhile 'Dhoom 3' had a fantastic second weekend as well with around 35 crore coming in just from the Hindi version. This means the film has now crossed the 215 crore mark in 10 days flat, which is an astonishing average of over 20 crore every day. This is simply unprecedented!

This week would see the film go past the 'Chennai Express' record of 225 crore and many more records would be broken and created before the film enters its third week. Though there would be debates around the cost of the film and the likeness quotient, the fact remains that from the absolute numbers perspective, Yash Raj Films now have an All Time Blockbuster in their kitty.
