Can you imagine a Jayaram movie that is released in a single center, in the entire state.?
Yes, that was something that happened last week when his 'Magic Lamp' made to a single theatre at Kothamangalam without any prepublicity.
Added to that, much of the audience in the city thought of this movie as a rerun (since the posters depicted Divya Unni and Khushboo, who are nowhere in the scene now) and avoided getting into theatres, to have a watch.
The movie which was in the making from 2000 has been resting in the cans for the last eight years, following the dismal financial conditions of its producers.
According to a version, the early release in a single theatre is stated as a miscommunication, as the distributors are planning to get the movie into theatres only by this weekend. The print that was shown at Kothamanagalam was the one sensor print that was early dispatched to the said theatre. The distributors not only failed to make other prints on time and make a simultaneous release but also failed to communicate, not to show the movie on the earlier planned date.
Another version of the story says that since a new group has acquired the rights for distribution, they were planning a test release by showing it in one theatre. They were also making sure that the film may not get into further delay on court orders, by making a silent release.
Anyway, the movie is likely to make an impact release by the end of this week.
