To an online media veteran director I.V. Sasi shared the memories of the film Mrugaya`. Mammootty enacted the role of protagonist of the movie Varunni who is a wild hunter. The film was released 27 years back. It was scripted by Lohitadas and directed by I.V. Sasi.

According to the director, Mammootty worked really hard for the movie. The film tells a story of the village that is under constant attack from a predator leopard. People are killed and Varunni is brought to save the village from this menace.

Lohitadas told this story to the director; he knew personally such a character in real life. Mrugaya was inspired version of such a character. I.V Sasi recently spoke about in the wake of the latest release of Mohanlal Pulimurugan. According to the director Mammootty made a daring effort in that film. He just joined the shoot without any preparation. At that time there is no graphics or V.F.X to do challenging scenes like now. Everything has to be shot. There is no safety harness and safety measures to ensure the safety of the actors while shooting. Except two long shots, Mammootty has done the rest himself. The leopard was a trained one, brought from Chennai.
