Madras HC orders comparison of Jaya's Apollo & Bangalore finger prints

In a major decision, the High Court of Madras has decided to verify the finger-prints (left hand thumb impression-LTI) of former Tamil Nadu chief-minister Jayalalithaa recorded during her hospitalization at Apollo Hospitals in Chennai and during her prison term at the Parappana Agrahara Prison complex in Bangalore in 2015.
The Court has asked the prison authorities to furnish copies of Jayalalithaa’s finger-prints affixed in prison registers. The Court’s decision emerged while it was hearing a petition filed by Saravanan, DMK’s losing candidate from Tirupparankundram, who had accused that it was a ‘fake’ finger-print of Jayalalithaa in the nomination form as she wasn’t in a position physically to affix her thumb impression on these forms.
Justice Velmurugan has been hearing the case and when the latest hearing was held yesterday, the Judge decided to compare Jayalalithaa’s finger-prints on the nomination form with the prints she registered in records at Bangalore’s Parappana Agrahara prison two years back. The Court later passed an order to send Jayalalithaa’s finger-print copy to Bangalore prison for comparison with their records.
The Court also ordered that the late Jayalalithaa’s Aadhaar card and other details be furnished by 08th December. It may be noted that Saravanan has raised the same issue also with the Justice Arumuga Swamy Commission of Inquiry appointed by the Govt. of Tamil Nadu to probe the mysterious circumstances leading to the former chief-minister’s demise on 05th December last year.
