Madras HC asks State to give priority in employment to Tamil medium students

The High Court of Madras has directed the Govt. of Tamil Nadu to give priority in offering employment in Govt. service to Tamil medium candidates by allocating 20% of jobs for them.

A G.O. in this regard was passed by the erstwhile DMK regime during the year 2010. In his petition filed with the High Court of Madras in this regard, Senthilkumar hailing from Tiruvannamalai had alleged that successive Governments in the State were not keen or serious in implementing the provisions of the above-mentioned Govt. order.

“I had passed my post-graduation and have studied in Tamil medium of education till now. I haven’t been considered for employment in Govt. of Tamil Nadu’s service as the above G.O. wasn’t implemented in totality,” Senthilkumar had stated in his petition which was taken up yesterday by the Court.

The Court then directed the Govt. of Tamil Nadu to implement in toto the 2010 G.O. in respect of granting employment in State Govt. services by reserving 20% vacancies for Tamil medium-educated candidates.
