AIADMK Presidium Secretary and senior party leader Madhusudanan would be the party’s candidate in R.K. Nagar where by-polls are to be held on 21st December.
By-polls were to be held on 12th April in R.K. Nagar in Chennai to fill the vacancy created by last December’s unfortunate demise under mysterious circumstances of former Tamil Nadu chief-minister J. Jayalalithaa. It were, however, cancelled at the very last moment after it was found that the leading parties in the fray had indulged in large-scale cash-for-vote scam to impress voters.
DMK has already repeated its candidate Marudhu Ganesh and the AIADMK has also done the same, repeating Madhusudanan as its candidate after deliberations at the party’s Governing Council meeting held yesterday. Seated next to each other, O. Panneerselvam, the deputy chief-minister and the party’s convener and Edapadi K. Palaniswami, chief-minister and the party’s deputy convener, announced it jointly.
Gokula Indira and Balaganga too expressed their desire to contest from R.K. Nagar, which had elected Jayalalithaa twice in two years. The restructured Governing Council of the AIADMK met at the party’s headquarters yesterday and deliberated long and hard for 2 hours before deciding to nominate Madhusudanan, who had won from the constituency way back in 1991.
