Madhu Chopra, the mother of actor Priyanka Chopra, has stated that the starlet was brought up in a joint family system. In the book "Raising Stars," written by Rashmi Uchil and excerpted by The Indian Express, Madhu reveals the minimal upbringing she gave to Priyanka but sees the amazing growth of the actor.
She stressed the nourishing environment of their family, in which she criticized the nuclear family model and admired how Priyanka and her brother Siddharth were brought up in an environment with expanded family members.
Madhu, a film producer and also a doctor by profession, said, "I am so proud of my kids. I gave so little. In return, Priyanka has done wonders." She did mention the importance of family life and gatherings with a few relatives who are staying in Bombay. Madhu described their bond as incredibly close, speaking about the fun and camaraderie with the cousins that were almost indistinguishable from siblings.
Recollecting her parenting, Madhu Chopra mentioned in an interview with India Today that one thing that she regretted was sending Priyanka to boarding school during her childhood. She had expressed deep regret, admitting that it was one of the biggest mistakes of her life. Madhu confessed, "Sending her to boarding school was not the correct decision on our part. I still feel repentant and guilty about it. It was my mistake."
Throughout her discussions with Priyanka, Madhu Chopra stressed their togetherness and the importance of family values, and she spoke about the upbringing of the two families jointly.
