Ban on actors smoking on screen is needless and uncalled for, Madhavan said.

Asked why a big gap after Ayudha Ezhuthu, Madhavan said "since I was pre-occupied with a Hindi movie Ramji Londonwale and a Malayalam movie, I could not do any other film. However, now I have got Priyasakhi amd Thambi ready for release. Next, I would be doing a movie for cinematographer turned director Jeeva".

Stating that politics is not his cup of tea, Madhavan said "cinema is my passion and I would continue to act in different roles".

Asked whether he would attempt to direct a movie in future, Madhavan said "I am a good actor. Perhaps I need to learn a lot in case if I wish to direct".

Expressing his desire to act in movies of Bala, Balaji Sakthivel, Cheran and Charan, Madhavan said "I am envious of the role played by Vikram in Pithamagan and Amitabh in Black".
