Maatraan Music Review

They struck gold in 'Ayan'. So expectations were naturally high when 'Maattrraan', which has Harris Jayaraj, K V Anand and Suriya together again, was announced.

Harris Jayaraj has not disappointed, one has to say, for the music composer has equipped 'Maattrraan' with songs that make an instant impact.

Backed by a young team of lyricists and singers, Harris has dished out an interesting treat to the fans.

Rettai Kathirae (Krish)

Lyricist: Na Muthukumar

Krish always shares a wonderful rapport with Harris Jayaraj. Almost all the songs crooned by him for Harris have made it big. 'Rettai Kathirae...' is supposedly the introduction song of the conjoined twins. Na Muthukumar has aptly used words that describes the life of twins. Thanks to Harris' wonderful harmony, the song ends up peppy and racy. Should be more appealing when one watches it with visuals.

Naani Koni (Vijay Prakash, Karthik & Shreya Goshal)

Lyricist: Viveka

Bring together the mesmerising voices of Vijay Prakash, Karthik and Shreya Ghosal, one will eventually end up getting a mystic feel. Viveka is the real hero of the song. His lyrics are different from his earlier songs for they sound more rhyming and conveys the purpose of the number. Three cheers for the three singers.

Theeyae Theeyae (Aalap Raju & Charulatha)

Lyricist: Pa Vijay

Aaalap Raju of 'Ennamo Aedho...' ('Ko') fame is fast rising. Listen to this song once and you will vouch that this guy has immense potential. In the company of Charulatha, he has crooned this number with zeal.  'Theeyae Theyale...' is an innovative attempt where the sound of instruments is new to Tamil film music and it is worthy to give an ear to.

Yaro Yaro (Karthik)

Lyricist: Thamarai

Karthik had sung some popular numbers 'Hasili Fisili...' and 'Oru Maalai...' for Suriya before. Now he makes one more good rendering here. The highlight of this song is wonderful lyrics by Thamarai. Karthik takes it in his stride to give his best where the instrumentation gives more place for the vocals. A typical Harris Jayaraj number.

Kaal Mulaitha (Javid Ali & Mahalakshmi Iyer)

Lyricist: Madhan Karky

Perhaps, the song of the album. Since the song is set in Russia, Karky has come up with words like Ballet, Volga, Chamomile. Indeed a energetic and peppy number, the song sticks to our ears in the first listening itself with wonderful vocals by Javed Ali and Mahalakshmi.
