Mollywood's most bankable actor Tovino Thomas has been roped in to play the main antagonist in Dhanush's forthcoming film Maari 2. The new was officially announced by the movie's director Balaji Mohan through his social media page. "First #Maari2 update! #Maari has a new nemesis. Happy to have @ttovino #TovinoThomas on board! One of the most fav characters I’ve written,” wrote Balaji.

Tovino Thomas also shared his excitement on teaming up with Dhanush for the thid time. "Things get sweeter! Extremely excited and proud to be part of 'Maari 2'. It will be my third association with Wunderbar Films after 'Tharangam' & 'Maradona' and the crowning fact - first opportunity to share the screen with National Award winner Dhanush. Keep supporting. Love and cheers.!!!!," wrote Tovino Thomas. Maari 2 which is yet to go on the floors is the sequel to his 2015 hit film Maari. Dhanush plays the titular role of a city-based young rowdy in the film.  

Talking about choosing Tovino, Balaji Mohan says, “It’s a unique villain character that needed someone who is also a lead actor to pull it off. Tovino is an intense actor who can transform into roles. When we narrated the story, he was excited by the character and agreed to come on board.”  Shooting of Maari 2 will commence in November.

Meanwhile, with  his Tamil debut, Abhiyum Anuvum, directed by BR Vijayalakshmi, Tovino Thomas is all set to make his foot-hold in Kollywood. The movie will hit the bigscreens soon.
