Vijay Sethupathi and Seenu Ramaswamy announced 'Maamanithan' in 2017 itself after the tremendous success of their 'Dharmadurai'. Yuvan Shankar Raja not only agreed to produce the film but also brought on board his legendary father Ilayaraja to score the music along with him. However filming started a couple of years later and was wrapped up but the coronavirus pandemic caused a further two years delay.
Recently Popular actor and Studio 9 owner R.K. Suresh bought the rights for 'Maamanithan' and announced that it will be releasing on May 20th worldwide. Now he has updated that there is a change in plans and wrote on Twitter "Due to continue
Vijay Sethupathi movie releases studio9 have changed the release date of mamanithan from may 20 th to June 24 . Mamanithan deserves to hold minimum 400 theatres all over tamilnadu . Our sincere apologies to all theatre owners and distributor. "
Vijay Sethupathi's 'Kaathu Vaakula Rendu Kadhal' costarring Nayanthara and Samantha is releasing on April 28th with high expectations from the youth crowd. Within a little over a month after that Kamal Haasan's 'Vikram' is also hitting the screens on June 3rd in which VJS is the chief antagonist. Hence trade analysts are welcoming the move by Suresh to postpone 'Maamanithan'.

Jewel Mary, Anikha, Ganja Karuppu, Manasvi Kottachi and Saravana Sakthi in the cast. The pre-release screenings have recieved thunderous response for Vijay Sethupathi's acting and the intense family subject.
