The price of cooking gas LPG was on Wednesday increased by Rs 144.5 per cylinder in keeping with the rise in benchmark global rates of the fuel. In order to save customers from the steep price hike, the Centre has nearly raised the subsidy by 100 percent. As such, the burden on the customer remains unchanged. Subsidy stands increased from Rs 153.86 per cylinder to Rs 291.48.
Public sector oil firms today said, "LPG price has been increased to Rs 858.50 per 14.2 kg cylinder from Rs 714." This is the highest single-time price hike since 2014.
As per the current policy, LPG customers receive 12 cylinders of 14.2 kg at subsidized rates.
As per an ANI report, "Prices of non-subsidized 14 kg Indane gas in metros is applicable from today: In Delhi, price rises to Rs 858.50 (increase by Rs 144.50), in Kolkata - Rs 896.00 (increase by Rs 149), in Mumbai - Rs 829.50 (increase by Rs 145), in Chennai - Rs 881.00 (increase by Rs 147)."
