Ahead of the release of 'Tik Tik Tik', Jayam Ravi meets the media to talk about India's first space film. In this interview, he throws light on what makes the film special, why he is not worried about 'TTT' being compared with Hollywood movies, and more.
'Tik Tik Tik' is being touted as India's first space film. The description has naturally raised the expectations. What is in store in the movie?
All that I can say is that the film will go down as one of the unforgettable movies in the history of Indian cinema. Director Shakti Soundar Rajan wanted to do something different when he approached me with the script. Although I was expected that it must be a distinct idea, I wouldn't have guessed that it's a space film. I was expecting some sort of 'Jurrasic Park'. Many space films were made in Holly in the 1990s. It took a lot of expenditure to do something beyond them.
There was a time when we thought it would be impossible. But our director has made it possible.
The Trailer suggests that your character saves India from something apocalyptic. What is the premise?
A catharsis faces India (due to a conspiracy). In order to aver the impending danger, the defense sector's space division mounts a plan. How the evil plans are foiled is what is the crux of the film.
Weren't you apprehensive about 'TTT' getting compared with similar Hollywood genres?
Comparisons are bound to be there. The upside of this scenario is that it can bring out the best in a filmmaker. I would say that our film compares well with Hollywood films. Some of the visuals in 'TTT' may be similar to those in Holly movies, but the fact is that such similarities are not avoidable. That said, some of the scenes are better in 'TTT' than in most Holly movies. The space episodes start 20 minutes before the interval. Eighty percent of the movie unfolds in that backdrop.
We are expecting breathtaking visuals. Tell us about your character. Was it very hard to shoot for the movie?
I am the pivotal man in the space division of the defense sector. I am an escape artist who can extricate a given thing out of the danger it's in.
The director worked really hard on this movie. The film is entirely his vision. On the graphics alone, 200 artists worked for something like 5 months. As for me, I found it difficult to shoot for the space-related shots.
We hear that your son is part of the cast. Is it true?
Yes, my son has done the film. He agreed to act in the movie as soon as I asked him. Acting with him was an unforgettable and indescribable experience.
How are the promotions going on in Telugu?
I have come here to thank the producers for carrying out promotional activities so well. Someone recently told me about their efforts while in Chennai.
