After India, it is now the turn of England to turn the heat on beleaguered industrialist and beverages tycoon Vijay Mallya as a London Court has passed orders attaching properties worth crores of rupees belonging to the Bangalore-based industrialist.
Properties worth Rs.10,000 crores are to be attached following the Court order. Plenty of corruption charges have been leveled against the former founder of the now-defunct Kingfisher Airlines who owes several thousand crores to many Indian banks but fled to London without repaying them. India filed a case at the Westminster Court demanding that Mallya be deported to India so that he could be tried for the several cases of corruption/cheating pending against him.
India’s premier investigating agency CBI and many Indian banks have filed cases with the London Court which is conducting the trial. Earlier, Vijay Mallya had told the Court during interrogation that the Govt. of India was taking vengeance by framing false charges against him. When the case was taken up yesterday, the Court ordered freezing/attaching of Vijay Mallya’s Rs.10000 crore worth properties spread across England. It also passed orders to pay Rs.4.30 lakhs as weekly subsistence allowance to Mallya.
The Court’s action is seen as supportive of Govt. of India’s efforts in getting Vijay Mallya deported. It may be noted that Mallya has huge business interests in England as well and has plenty of properties located in Virgin Island off England.
