Narendra Modi, in his address to the nation tonight, said that lockdowns by States should be the last resort. This came as a relief for millions of Indians.
The Prime Minister urged the States to consider lockdowns only as the last option and focus creating on micro containment zones.
He also requested State governments to urge migrant workers to stay at places of migration so they are convinced that they will be vaccinated in the city of their stay.
Clarifying about the vaccination policy, Modi assured that all adults will get the vaccine for free at government centres or hospitals from May 1.
Addressing the issue of medical infrastructure, Modi said that work is on to increase the number of beds in hospitals, besides creating large COVID-19 dedicated hospitals in cities.
