Liquor shops: Serpentine queues bid goodbye to Social Distancing
- IndiaGlitz, [Monday,May 04 2020]
Lockdown 3.0 has turned out to be Fu*k Social Distancing 1.0. With hundreds of liquor shops reopened on Monday, serpentine queues have come to be seen in different parts of the country. At a number of liquor stores, dozens and dozens of men, starved of liquor for weeks together, appeared with gay abandon. They threw social distancing norms to the winds.
Journalist Paul Oomen shared a video from Andhra Pradesh's Tenali to give a glimpse of the nature of the problem. 2000 stores opened up today, with time restrictions and 25% hike in prices to reduce crowding. But people don't give a damn! he added.
Liquor shops (standalone ones) are open in non-containment zones in the Red Zone district of Mumbai. Long queues outside liquor shops were seen in areas such as at Bhandarkar road, Wanawdi, Salunke Vihar and NIBM road area with residents thronging the shops to buy alcohol, reported Hindustan Times.
Many on social media are complaining that the governments may have done a blunder by allowing liquor shops to operate from Monday.
