After wine shops across the country were permitted to restart their operations, a huge crowd gathered outside the shops to buy the alcohol. While several videos and photos of the chaotic situation surfaced on social media, a customer's bill that amounted to Rs 50,000 went viral on social media, inviting trouble for both buyer and the seller. The bill prompted the state excise department to book the Bengaluru vendor for violating license rules.
Reportedly, the unidentified person violating rules purchased multiple bottles of 17 items amounting to 13.5 litres of liquor and 35 litres of beer.As per the excise department rules state a seller cannot sell more than 2.6 litres of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) or 18 litres of beer to a customer in a day.
After tracing the seller, an FIR was filed against Vanilla Spirit Zone, located in Tavarekere Main Road, where liquor worth Rs 52,841 was purchased by a customer. However, when the seller was questioned he said that the bill was of the purchase of eight people who made the payment through one card. The police are investigating his claim and are trying to trace down the buyer.
Meanwhile, the department is looking for more such cases as many other buyers have also posted similar bills on social media. On Sunday, the Karnataka Excise Department confirmed that liquor worth Rs 45 crore was sold.
