How much ever we try to convince ourselves, wild animals are in the end ‘wild’. We have seen and heard of many instances where the owner himself was attacked by the pet which he had lovingly cared for years.
This tragic news is also a similar one. For the uninitiated, Shamba is a lion raised by 72 year old Michael Hodge who is the owner of Marakele Predator Centre. He had raised Shamba since its birth. However over the weekend, he was attacked by the lion at a private game reserve near Thabazimbi in Limpopo during which Shamba was killed.
The attack has left Hodge with a broken jaw and injuries to the neck. A traumatised Hodge is recovering in hospitaland is said to be very upset about the loss of Shamba. It is also worth mentioning here that Hodge’s family owned Shamba for 10 years.
