Like Vijay Mallya, 71 other scamsters have escaped!

  • IndiaGlitz, [Friday,February 07 2020]

We all know that Vijay Mallya escaped from the country years ago after defrauding Indian banks of more than Rs 9,000 Cr. Mehul Choksi and Nirav Modi are two other high-profile offenders we have all heard of. Shockingly, many other alleged scamsters have fled from India. This has been stated by the Minister of External Affairs in Lok Sabha.

As per the MEA, the 72 individuals have been wanted in criminal cases for committing financial frauds, etc. The government has deployed various tools to bring them back to India. From issuance of LOC (look-out circular), red corner notice and extradition requests, several options have been explored.

We have also executed actions under the Fugitive Economic Offenders Act, 2018 (FEOA), the MEA told the Parliament.

As the Vijay Mallya case shows, the extradition process is highly complex. That's why it is not easy to extradite those wanted by the law.

Some of the names of the alleged economic offenders are: Pushpesh Baid, Ashish Jobanputra, Sunny Kalra, Sanjay Kalra, etc.
