Narendra Modi has on Friday gave a call for a united exercise on the lines of collective clapping and clanging of plates done on March 22 during Janata Curfew. The Prime Minister said that, on April 5, at 9pm, everyone in the country must switch off lights at their homes and light up a lamp. He urged all Indians to light a lamp, diya, torch or even phone light from balconies or at our doors to dispel the darkness of Corona and invoke our collective strength.
After the 5pm clapping on March 22, many came out onto roads out of jubilation. This time, Modi asked them not to do so. "I also appeal to people to avoid gathering anywhere during this period (on 5th April at 9 PM). You don't have to go out on the streets and in the colonies, but do it from your doorsteps and balconies," the PM said.
Earlier in his address to the nation, Modi said that the Janata Curfew and the clapping exercise have become a model that has been emulated by other countries.
Commenting on the appeal, social media influencer Rahul Raj says, "Narendra Modi is playing it smart. He knows that 21 days lockdown is making many people restless. He is giving short term goals to people and keeping them engaged. His critics may ridicule his ways, but he is reaching out to common citizens who need these spirit-lifting moments."
