'Liger': Lurches towards Rowdy-esque disaster

'Liger' is on its way to becoming a disaster everywhere. Its tectonic and drastic fall in the Telugu States after Day 1 needs no introduction.

Overseas, the movie has been tottering on the brink. Its premieres picked up very good numbers in the US, but the decline since then has been phenomenal.

In the first weekend, 'Liger' grossed $746,429 (Rs 5.90 Cr) in the US, thereby becoming a flop. The Puri Jagannadh-directed actioner has run out of its steam already. Both 'Karthikeya 2' and 'Sita Ramam' are posting very healthy numbers in the US, with the former going out of its way to take the zing out of Liger's meagre potential.

In Hindi, the Nett. figures are not too encouraging, although they are not too disappointing either. The first weekend's Nett. figure stands at Rs 13.75 Cr from India.

Overall, in all languages, 'Liger' is expected to lose about Rs 60 Cr in terms of theatrical business, with the major chunk of loss coming from Telugu, followed by Hindi. That will make it one of the worst disasters ever witnessed.
