Southern Army Commander Lieutenant General S K Saini warned South India of a possible terrorist attack after the Army received inputs regarding the same. He added that some abandoned boats have been recovered in the Sir Creek area - a 96 km tidal estuary on the border of India and Pakistan dividing Gujarat from Sindh province.

"We have inputs that there may be a terrorist attack in the southern part of India. Some abandoned boats have been recovered from Sir Creek. We're taking precautions to ensure that designs of inimical elements and terrorists are stalled," a news agency quoted Saini. Security has been tightened across Kerala and Tamil Nadu following the intelligence inputs and the Kerala Police chief has alerted all district police chiefs to maintain tight security in crowded places such as airports, bus stands, and railway stations, especially during the Onam celebrations on Wednesday.

"The northern most point of the Army's southern command includes some parts of Gujarat also. The word south from southern command GOC does not mean Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka only. It includes complete southern peninsula and parts of Gujarat," a defence spokesperson in Chennai reportedly said.
