Director Mahendran is one of the celebrated directors of our country, and he has directed some classics like Uthiri Pookal, Mullum Malarum, Johnny, Nenjathai Killathe etc. The director had passed away before two years.

After directing many classic movies, Mahendran was also seen as an actor in movies like Theri, Seethakaathi and was seen last in Superstar Rajnikanth's Petta. Today is Mahendran's birth anniversary, and his son, director John has shared a special voice note sent by superstar Rajnikanth on the occasion.

Rajnikanth, in the voice note says "People praise my acting in Mullum Malarum, and Mahendran must be credited for that. He's my very close friend, and a very different person. He was never worried or thinking about money or fame and was focusing only on giving good films. Recently I happened to see Uthiri Pookal and it made me shed tears. We've lost him very soon, and I was fortunate enough to act with him in Petta and spend time with him in Kasi during the shoot. It's been two years since he passed away and I feel happy in remembering him on this day".
