He had been suffering from age-related ailments and health issues for the past few months and was receiving treatment at his residence in Chennai, where he breathed his last this morning. Upon hearing the news of his demise, the entire film industry and Tamil hearts are deeply immersed in profound grief.

Bharathiraja made his debut as a director in the Tamil film industry with the movie ’16 Vayathinile’ released in the year 1977. Until then, Tamil cinema, which was moving within settings with actors wearing makeup, was revolutionized by him by showcasing real village people and the pure fragrance of the Tamil soil on screen.
