Actor-writer LB Sriram has brought out a short film titled 'Naa Kalladdaalu', saying that its main purpose is to spread awareness about Covid-19 in an entertaining way. This one-act play, featuring the famous comedian alone (there are a few invisible characters, too), laces its message with banter and bonhomie.
Sriram plays the male head of a family comprising of an irreverent wife, an inquisitive grandson, and an alert daughter-in-law, while the symbolism of the chessboard is its motif. Somewhere, we hear Sriram likening the Prime Minister to the game's Mantri and chanting 'NaMo Namaha' to make sure that he is referring to Modi. "The different players on the chessboard are maintaining social distancing," says Sriram, suggesting that he is satisfied with their discipline. Despite wearing specs, he keeps pestering his family members for his pair of glasses, only to be given just desserts towards the end.
Amid sharing banter with his wife and priding over his grandson's goodness, Sriram also busies himself with household work. While everybody is busy with their respective works, the grandma of the house describes the kitchen as her Taj Mahal, whose 'Shah Jahan' she is, bringing out the short film's inherent family entertainment genre.
From 'work from home' to face masks and donations to the government, terms associated with the season are heard through the 7-minute-long short film.
With story by P Rajendra Kumar, its script is by P Rajendra Kumar, KK Ramachandrmurty, and LB Sriram. Shot by Venkatram, it was edited by Kundan Yadav K.
