Varun and Varsha, two frogs, got married to each other in order to ‘appease god Varuna.’ In an intriguing incident, the wedding of the frogs took place at a hotel in Udupi on Saturday to resolve the water crisis in the district. The wedding organized by Udupi Nagarika Vedike and Pancharatna Trust started off with Maruthi Veethika in which the two were brought in a decorated rickshaw. Following this, the procession went to the Kediyoor Hotel.
Chi. Varuna, son of Kalsanka, and Sou Varsha, daughter of Kolalgiri Kilinje were married at the hotel, the ceremony complete with mangalsutra and lunch. More than 50 people attended the wedding.
The organizers saw it as a way to receive much-needed rains in the region. Previously, Nityananda Volakadu, secretary of the Udupi Nagarika Vedike, had also organized for frog baby showers and cradling ceremonies where baby frogs were all named 'Maleraya' or 'rainfall.'
