Last week's releases seem to be star crossed. On the heels of widespread protests against "Girlfriend" which depicts a lesbian relationship, Govind Nilhani's "Dev" is courting trouble in Gujarat.

"Dev", which stars Amitabh Bachchan, Om Puri, Fardeen Khan and Kareena Kapoor, is based on the communal riots that rocked Gujarat in 2002. The film graphically details how politicians and law enforcement agencies allegedly fuelled the riots.

Rajkot resident Sandeep Chandrasinh Revre has filed a case against the director, claiming his film can provoke communal disharmony in India.

The film received a cold reception at the box-office, both in India and overseas. Reports say in the US it collected $84,728 on 35 screens and 40,509 pounds on 25 screens in Britain.

This is much lower than what the Saif Ali Khan-Rani Mukherjee-starrer "Hum Tum" made in its third week.
