The trailer for Akshay Kumar's 'Bell Bottom' was quite gripping and engaging. However, actress Lara Dutta who plays a pivotal role, went totally unnoticed by many during the first watch of the trailer. This was due to the fact that she was totally unrecognisable as her character of Indian's former Prime Minister, Smt Indira Gandhi.
'Bell Bottom' revolves around a plane hijacking and the Indian government's attempt to rescue the hostages. Akshay Kumar takes the lead as a highly skilled raw agent who plans to save the hostages. The film includes character of Indira Gandhi as the film is set in the 80s and she take the matter of national importance in her own hands.
During the trailer launch Lara had to specify which character she was playing. She said, "I'm playing Mrs Indira Gandhi in the film. That's me. All it took was a call and they said that Lara this film is being made and we are casting for Indira Gandhi's role. That is all it took, before I even heard the script. But yes, of course, there is a great responsibility when you're portraying somebody who is an iconic figure like her."
About the role and the project, Lara said, "As you all know that the film deals with a hijack situation that happened during her tenure. Given the dramatic events that were unfolding, she was somebody who was extremely centred and not really prone to any dramatics. So it was important to portray her in that form. I had a great time. There was a lot of homework and research that went behind it. But it was an opportunity of a lifetime that I'm thankful for."
