Continuing its tactic of attacking hapless Tamil fishermen at will, Sri Lankan Navy personnel were at it again yesterday off Katchativu.
Fishermen numbering around 1500 left in 300 fishing boats on Friday night to indulge in deep-sea fishing in Indian waters near Katchativu. Even as they were fishing, Lankan Navy personnel arrived there in no time and asked them to vacate the place.
They also attacked the fishermen by throwing stones and bottles at them. Expensive fishing nets were also damaged by Lankan Navy personnel who indulged in unprovoked attack on hapless Indian (Tamil) fishermen thus denying them their right to earn their livelihoods.
Fishermen were chased away by the Lankan forces and returned to shores as a disappointed lot. Fishermen wondered who would compensate them for the losses ranging from Rs.10000 to Rs.30000 suffered by them.
