Lankan Navy personnel arrested 10 Tamil fishermen from Neduntheevy in the mid-seas apparently without any provocation.
The fishermen, hailing from Kottaipattinam in Pudhukottai, were fishing near Neduntheevu late on Saturday when they were intercepted by a boat of Lankan Navy. The Navy personnel wrongly blamed the fishermen of having breached maritime boundaries before arresting them and confiscating their expensive fishing boats.
The arrested fishermen have been taken to the Karainagar Naval Base where they are being interrogated.
It has become a never-ending story for Tamil fishermen to be arrested (for no fault of theirs) by the Lankan Navy personnel. In the process, the fishermen end up on the losing side as they are not able to get back their confiscated fishing boats even after their release from Lankan prisons.
