Tejasvi Yadav, former deputy chief-minister of Bihar and who is also the son of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president and former chief-minister Laloo Prasad Yadav, has alleged that the BJP-led Centre has hatched a ‘conspiracy’ kill his father by reducing the security cover provided to Laloo from ‘Z Plus’ category to 'Z' category.
Prominent politicians have been given security cover by the Centre depending on the ‘security threats’ they face. The security cover varies in many categories such as 'Z Plus', 'Z' and 'Y'. From time to time, the Union Home Ministry reviews the security scenario and either upgrades or degrades the security cover provided to the leaders.
Recently, the Ministry decided to reduce Laloo’s security from 'Z Plus' category to ‘Z’ which would mean that Laloo’s security team won’t have commandoes from the national security guards (NSG). Likewise, the security cover provided thus far to former chief-minister Jithan Ram Manji has also been withdrawn.
Reacting to the degrading of his father’s security, Tejasvi said that his father still faced threats from many quarters. “By reducing his security, the Centre has hatched a conspiracy to kill my father. If his security becomes a point of debate in future, both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh are liable to explain the situation,” Tejasvi concluded.
