Lakshmi Kalyanam

Cinematographer turned director Teja is craving for a hit. Nandamuri Kalyanram who gave a blockbuster like 'Athanokkade' had a soar experience with 'Asaadhhyudu' and is also waiting for a good hit. The film, 'Lakshmi Kalyanam' which came in their combination turned out to be a moderate hit.

Though there was a divided talk in the beginning, it slowly picked up and proved an above average film and soon got a hit talk after two days of its release. Debutant heroine Kaajal looked gorgeous as a village belle as the film was made in rural backdrop.

Rayavaram sarpanch Chenchuramaiah (Sayaji Shinde) and Kotipalli president Chalamaiah join hands to kill Ramu's (Kalyanram) father. They flare up tensions between the villages for their petty political gains. The temple constructed by the people of Rayavaram in Kotipalli turns the bone of contention and due to the factional feuds the temple gets locked and sealed by the collector, who erects a fence and orders that no villager should cross the borders.

Lakshmi (Kaajal) is the daughter Chenchuramaiah. She is love with Ramu, who is the son her paternal aunt (Prabha). Ramu's friend Gopalam (Srinivasa Reddy) falls in love with Parijatham (Suhasini), who was the daughter of a prostitute (Subhashini), belonging to Kotipalli. Chalamaiah's son Giridhar (Ajay) loses his heart to Lakshmi.

In order to marry Lakshmi, he eliminates his wife. When Giridhar teases Lakshmi, Ramu challenges with the former and dares to open the Siva temple's doors and perform abhishekam. As he does it, the people of Kotipalli attack the villagers of Rayavaram. Chenchuramaiah hatches a crooked plan and proposes to hold a bullock cart race. As per the agreement, if Ramu wins Chenchuramaiah would marry Lakshmi to him, if he fails Ramu should accept her marriage with Giridhar. Giridhar lures Gopalam with Parijatham and tells him to prevent Ramu from the race.

With his friend himself backstabbing Ramu, he fails to win the race and as per the word, Ramu agrees to get her married to Giridhar. However, Gopalam returns and reveals the secret behind Giridhar's victory. As per Lakshmi's wish, Giridhar and Ramu again participate in a race. Despite the crooked plans, Ramu wins the race and wins over Lakshmi.

Kalyanram performed well as an innocent and illiterate village youth. His body language and acting skills had witnessed a vast change and looked quite matured. Kaajal, though this is her debut appearance acted well and showed nice emotions and gestures.

Like all the Teja's films, villain's role again turned a highlight and Ajay walked away with honours. He gave a brilliant performance as villain after 'Vikramarkudu'. Other characters played by Telangana Sakuntala and Sayaji Shinde were moulded well, while Prabha and Suhasini did justice to their roles.

Paruchuri Brothers who penned dialogues for the first time to Teja's film did a nice job. Cinematography by RA Krishna is another plus point and he ably captured the village beauties with his camera. Music by RP Patnaik is average. Comedy by Raghubabu as villain's sidekick is okay.
